When I was younger people would ask me what I wanted for my birthday and I always had a go to answer…Lip Gloss. I LOVED that stuff, well if I’m going to be be completely honest with you all…I still do. I love collecting the different shades and keeping a couple bottles in my purse. As most of you already know I’m on a DIY kick! After creating an awesome foundation recipe and homemade face lotion I decided it was time to make my favorite beauty product! I’ve learned so much about the nasty ingredients in cosmetics and it is REALLY important to use natural lip products because we ingest them since they go right on our lips.
DIY Lip Gloss
1 Part Shea Butter (like this)
3 Parts Sweet Almond Oil (like this)
1 Parts Beeswax (like this)
1 small pinch of Beet root powder, cocoa or cinnamon
(optional) Therapeutic grade Peppermint Oil – Buy Therapeutic grade peppermint oil here
- Fill a pot with water and place a small mason jar or glass dish in the water making a mini double boiler.
- Add the ingredients(based on the ratios above) to the mason jar and allow to melt.
- Once melted together pour into your container* of choice and allow to cool
*When I was formulating this recipe I decided it would be easier to give you ratios instead of direct amounts because everyone has a different preference when it comes to lip gloss container type. I prefer to put it in a tube because I don’t like sticky lip gloss on my hands. You can purchase the tube in my photo here but beware it comes from china and took 2 weeks to arrive at my house! You could also reuse an old lip gloss tube (if the lid comes off) or use a tub like this or a tube like this.
And since you guys liked seeing pictures from my foundation recipe (as embarrassing as it is:) Here are some before and after pictures of my lips! I only used beetroot in my recipe which gave me a pretty soft pink color.
Depending on the color you’d like you can mix and match the beet root, cinnamon and cocoa for you perfect shade. Up next on my list is to make a pretty nude gloss! I also added half a drop of Peppermint Essential Oil which adds a little tingle:). Well there you have it! If you are looking for another recipe to try out my friend Heather from the Kula Mama has another great lip gloss recipe you can try out! Happy lip gloss making!!
